Convenience food….people love it. And who’s to blame them? We are presented with so many choices these days that it’s hard to turn them away; they make our life easier. However, they aren’t all bad. Convenience food can be an unhealthy frozen entree or it can simply be a bag of frozen fruits or vegetables, cleaned and precut. Those are the convenience foods that you want to utilize.

Why? Because life is busy. In order to eat healthy, it’s ok to take a few shortcuts. These smoothie packs will allow you to do that because you will have your freezer ready with the ingredients you need for a quick breakfast or snack.

Ok, ok, I realize you still have to put a little work in, but we’re talking about a few minutes here. Being prepared with healthy options will decrease the temptation to grab the highly processed stuff.

In order to make these awesome smoothie packs all you need to do is assemble little baggies or Tupperware full of your favorite smoothie ingredients. Then when you need a healthy breakfast or snack, you simply pull a smoothie pack out of the freezer and dump it into your blender. Then add any additional ingredients you want such as milk, nondairy milk, juice, coconut water, etc. give it a whirl and you’re good to go.

What should you have in your smoothie pack? Banana, veggies, seeds like chia seeds are good additions. Berries are another must-have in smoothies because they add great flavor, sweeten things up and offer so many vitamins.

One of my other favorite combos is this cherry, blueberry and kale mix which is super awesome because of the added veggie. Kale is a phenomenal super food that has definitely increased in popularity over the years. It’s packed with vitamins like A, C and K, and minerals like potassium, calcium and zinc. Plus it contains fiber and protein. Kale is low in calories, like other leafy greens, but it packed with antioxidants that are essential for the eyes and skin. Kale has been recognized for having anti-inflammatory benefits as well cancer and heart disease-prevention benefits (due to it’s cholesterol-lowering ability).

You might think frozen fruit and vegetables aren’t as nutritious as fresh, but the fruit and vegetables are frozen fresh at harvest, when their flavor and antioxidant goodness are at their peak so their nutrition is not compromised by being frozen. Sometimes you have no idea how long the produce has been sitting out in the store, after harvest, transport, etc. so sometimes it’s not the better choice.

You can still add additional fresh vegetables like spinach to your smoothie packs if you have things in your fridge to use up and just to boost your veggie intake even more.
